Valley Recycling Newsletter: Summer 2004
The City of Missoula has adopted the Greenhouse Gas/Energy
Conservation plan. The plan overview emphasizes reduce, reuse
and recycle. Based on 2002 waste tonnage, if Missoula increases
the recycling rate from 20% to 30%, we could reduce CO2 emissions
by 5,442 TONS per year.
Glass Recycling: Of course glass is heavy
and dangerous, and we have received many favorable comments
on our glass program. We are proud, that with our customers,
MVR has recovered about 30 tons of glass. We would like to
remind our customers that the glass must be clean with no
tops. Since we are paying Ozzies Oil to take the product,
it is necessary to charge extra glass charges IF you leave
more than 20 pounds. Please be advised, we may not pick it
up if our containers are too full to handle your extra glass.
Wanna buy glass sand?? Give Ozzies Oil a call for his glass
sand product in 40-50 pound sandbags for $5.00 per bag. Used
for winter traction, landscaping, and many other uses. Tom
thinks it’s more beautiful than plain sand!
Paper Recycling: Now that the “glass
issue” is (hopefully) taken care of, MVR would like
to focus on paper recycling. We are interested in businesses
that trash white paper or cardboard. With wood products contributing
over 50% to our landfill, is this not a wasted resource? One
thing you can do is help by recycling at your business and
buy white paper that is 100% recycled!
Call Tree Cycle for info. (549-4572)
Reminders:
If you don’t need a pickup on your day, remember to
call us a week in advance, and we will credit your account
for that pickup.
All pickups falling on holidays, including Labor day (Sept
6th) will be picked up on the following day. (4th of July,
on the 5th- regular day)
Andy asks, PLEASE separate your plastics,
