Missoula Valley Recycling FALL 2003 NEWSLETTER

Electronics Recycling: We are now recycling old computers!!

Many of our customers have called regarding this issue of old computers. Main frames, or CPUs, put heavy metals such as lead in our landfill if we don't recycle. MVR will now take your old computers but NOT the monitor or keyboards. If you wish to recycle your monitors or televisions, Palmer Electric will take them for a charge of $13.95.
In a related event, Calgary held an e-cycle Round-Up day, and reclaimed 500,000 pounds from the landfill including 16,000 pounds of lead.

Glass recycling: We are still working on the problem.

MVR is working as an advocate to facilitate glass recycling in Missoula.
At this point we have tested the crushed glass with an engineering firm to get specifications, and we think (hope) that the JTL Company will agree to use the glass as an additive in concrete mix. At this time are waiting for the equipment setup at Ozzie’s Oil. But there will be costs for MVR to process the glass. At the bottom of this newsletter there are two survey questions that will help us determine if we can afford to recycle glass in Missoula. Your cooperation will be appreciated. Please remember that we are a curbside recycling business, and we are not in the business of processing the products for markets. Because there is no market for glass, a processing fee will most likely be necessary if we are to recycle our glass. If this program is to succeed, it will be up the citizens of Missoula to support it.
