MVR NEWSLETTER WINTER 2009
Considering the financial turmoil, rising unemployment, and bankruptcy filings, it might be difficult to keep our eye on the ball.  Economic uncertainties and falling oil prices don’t change the reality under our feet. As Lisa Swallow intuitively points out in her Going Green articles, “Think globally, act locally, has never been more apt.” It would be wrong-thinking to lose sight of the global environmental issues such as global warming and conservation. MVR is a proud member of the Sustainable Business Council, the community leader in educating and connecting green businesses. Check their website at www.sbcmontana.com to learn more.
In the recycling industry, demand and price for recycled commodities such as papers, plastics, and metals have plummeted. China’s demand for recycled paper has dropped 38% in November alone. The price of local aluminum cans have gone from 65 cents to 15 cents per pound. As mentioned in our last newsletter, the MVR price increase reflects the need to give our drivers a wage raise, and keep up with our expenses. The best way to keep your cost lower, is with our buddy rate. That means you, and your adjacent neighbor recycles with MVR, reducing rates from $12 to $9 per pickup. Talk to your neighbor about our service, and perhaps we can increase recycling in your neighborhood! We also have the same special rates for seniors, singles, and limited income. Please call us with questions and suggestions.
During 2008, MVR has tried to improve service by offering makeup pickups, vacation or no-service holds, and reminder calls you if you missed last month. We are proud of our RITS (Recycling in the Schools) program and the improvements to our school presentations, and paper drives. Our drivers, Andy and Elias, will bend over backwards (and forwards) to educate and serve your recycling needs. As in any service industry, they appreciate your tips, smiles, and appreciation.
