MVR NEWSLETTER: FALL 2009
Recycling in the Schools
Schools are back in session, and JR, our new BBD- Blue Bin driver, has delivered bins for our classroom recycling program (RITS). This is the time of year when we ask for contributions from you, our customers to help with expenses. We are currently looking for sponsors for two schools. Last year we funded Meadow Hill School with the help of contributions. MVR began the Recycling In The Schools program under the 501c3 nonprofit partnership with Home Resource. This is our fourth year of providing schools with bins, recycling pickups, and in-service presentations. By letting kids recycle in the schools, we can encourage the ethics and good habits of recycling. Can you imagine a school NOT recycling? We have a list of our schools and all sponsors on our website.  If you wish, please send a separate check, and/or  download a contribution agreement on our website. Please make checks out to RITS- Home Resource.
Downtown Recycling Bins
The Business Improvement District, along with the City of Missoula, The Ecology Project, Home Resource, Parks and Recreation, MVR, recycling centers, and downtown businesses, are working on providing recycling bins to be placed downtown. Hopefully, these receptacles, placed next to trash cans, will give folks a chance to choose recycling, instead of throwing away recyclable commodities.
BlaBlaBla
At the MVR office, and on the street, we often hear the same questions and complaints regarding recycling in Missoula: Why isn’t there free recycling in Missoula? Why don’t they recycle glass? For people in the recycling industry, the main question is: Why don’t more people and businesses recycle? There are many facts and opinions regarding these (and other important) questions. Check our website for links and opinions regarding these issues.  What we reallllyyy appreciate- in the recycling industry- is the passion that some people have regarding recycling. MVR customers have the satisfaction of knowing that they act on their beliefs, without being forced to do it. Curbside recycling is the most practical and efficient method of recycling. MVR strives to be as service oriented as possible : we do special pickups, on call, makeup pickups, and reminder phone calls. We have been part of three glass programs, and started the school recycling program. We serve festivals, weddings, and downtown events like River City Roots fest. This year, we collected over 200lbs of recyclables!  We also once an a while, lend our service or expertise to city and statewide recycling functions.
Holliday Pickups
This quarter we have three or four (ok maybe five) holidays. Thanksgiving and New Years (whoopee)Day, both fall on Thursdays- MVR will get those customers on Friday, the following day-a wonderfull day to tip your driver… um, Andy likes cash. Or checks or money orders… he can’t accept credit cards at this time..but gift cards yes! Andy and JR are getting the job done well. Give us a call with comments and suggestions so we may improve.
Have a fun fall and happy holidays.
