MVR FALL NEWSLETTER, 2008
Recycling in the Schools (RITS) .
We are currently servicing 19 Missoula public schools, and we’re hoping to fund four more schools. The contributions from you, our customers, help to pay for administrative costs, fundraising, and in-service school presentations. Please take a minute to look at the schools, and the sponsors that are making a difference to promote recycling in our community. We are proud of this program at MVR.
Our school presentations added new vocabulary this year: Carbon footprint. This term has a way of helping us think about our energy impact. According to the EPA website, a family of four saves ONE TON of atmospheric carbon by curbside recycling.
Residential rate increase in 2009.
When we raised our curbside residential rates in 2000, gas was a dollar-fifty per gallon. Cost and wage factors were also the reasons for our two dollar raise nine years ago. Our residential rate next quarter will go to $12, and special rates will go from $8 to $9. Please, don’t cancel due to price! We will work with you. We always strive to improve our service. We now have reminder calls, makeup pickups, special pickups, shredding service, and special rates for neighborhood buddies, seniors, singles, and low-income.
Macro recycling
The Wilma and Millenium Buildings are examples of how we have adapted our service model to serve a variety of situations. We are offering service to condos, and office buildings, so that the cost-per-unit to recycle is reduced. We also hope to help recycle more downtown events. The economic news may look awful, but we want to move forward with an eye on the ball. The one under our feet.
