MVR NEWSLETTER: Winter 2006
RECYCLING
IN THE SCHOOLS
Many of our schools don't recycle because of budget constraints.
That is why MVR has started a program under the umbrella of
Jeannette Rankin Peace Center's nonprofit status. We have
already received some generous donations and advertising space
from the Independent! We will continue to try to raise funds
and convince businesses (a great PR value!) and individuals
of the benefits of recycling in our schools. Please take time
to read about this program. We welcome your questions, suggestions,
or financial help.
According to an article in the Bozeman Chronicle,
the cost of trash collection varies widely throughout the
state. Billings, with a city law against private trash collection,
is the cheapest at $6.58 per month, while Missoula is the
most expensive at $20.15 per month. Bozeman is considering
giving its city-run trash collection program over to BFI,
because their landfill space is nearly full. You can read
the article if you click
here.
A QUESTION: Did you know, that the only Missoula
building code regarding trash disposal, is that a dumpster
(for a commercial building) must be enclosed? Does a fence
one foot larger than a dumpster leave room for recycling space?
Is this how we want our city to grow? Come on! MVR has been
unable to recycle for some companies because they have no
space! Could this be poor planning? (Am I shouting??)
ANSWER: NO NO NO YES YES
Recycle Clothing. Winter is a good time to
go through your closet and rid yourself of unloved or underused
clothing. Please remember that we give your quality used clothing
to Secret Seconds store on 1130 West Broadway. They use the
proceeds for Pathways, a program supporting victims of domestic
abuse.
Andy wishes to thank everyone for thinking of him with tips
and goodies this holiday.
Please call us (543-2972) if you have questions about collection
or separating your recyclables. If we're not in the office
we will return your call. Tom, Darin, Andy, and Josh look
forward to working with you this year. Have a great winter!
We believe that curbside recycling, is the BEST way to recycle.
